Dayton, Virginia – Pork For The Pantry expands its footprint in support of Augusta County 4-H & FFA Youth Livestock programs and local food pantries.

Pork For The Pantry is a local partnership started by Eddie Edward Signs and Rockingham Cooperative whose mission is to support the hard work of the local 4-H and FFA members who personally raise local market animals for sale and to donate high-quality meat products to local food pantries that will benefit those less fortunate in the Shenandoah Valley community.

On Saturday, May 4th Rockingham Cooperative and Chris Runion committed to expanding the work that Pork For The Pantry does by purchasing two hogs at the Augusta County 4-H/FFA Market Animal Sale to then be donated to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  This fresh pork product will be delivered to the food bank’s Verona location on Wednesday, May 15th around 10 am to then be distributed to areas of greatest need.

“We are excited to see an increase in the Pork For The Pantry program, not only to benefit more hard-working youth in our community, but also to help feed those less fortunate with a high-quality, nutritious, product.  It’s our hope that more businesses and community organizations will join us and become a part of Pork For The Pantry in 2019 at future upcoming 4-H & FFA Livestock Sales in the Shenandoah Valley” – Chris Runion

Pork For The Pantry partnered with over 15 local businesses and community organizations in 2018, donating over $5,000 to support 4-H & FFA members in Rockingham County in their projects, which contributed to 750 lbs of fresh pork product that was distributed to area food pantries by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  With the addition of the new Augusta County donation, Pork For The Pantry hopes to see even more fresh protein sources become available for those who need it most.

Pork For The Pantry is a community project spearheaded by Rockingham Cooperative and Eddie Edwards Signs. Throughout it’s history the program has proudly sent fresh pork products to those in need in the Harrisonburg, Rockingham, and Augusta communities through the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  More information can be found at www.porkforthepantry.org.
