Pork For The Pantry Expands in 2019, Benefiting Local Food Pantries & Supporting Youth Agricultural Projects
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Harrisonburg, Virginia – Local businesses in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County are teaming up to support local 4-H and FFA members and fill local food pantries again this year.
Pork For The Pantry is a local partnership started by Eddie Edward Signs and Rockingham Cooperative whose mission is to support the hard work of the local 4-H and FFA members who personally raise local market animals for sale and to donate high-quality meat products to local food pantries that will benefit those less fortunate in the Rockingham County and City of Harrisonburg community.
Pork For The Pantry is proud to partner with the following community businesses/individuals for the 2019 Rockingham County 4-H & FFA Market Animal Sale: Rockingham Cooperative, Eddie Edward’s Signs, Chris Runion for Delegate, Rockingham Petroleum, Farm Credit of the Virginias, Nichols Financial Group, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Flora Pettit-Attorneys at Law, James River Equipment, Emmett Hanger for Senate, Senator Mark Obenshain, Tony Wilt for Delegate, T&E Meats, and our area Rotary Clubs. The support of these businesses and community members is greatly appreciated and has allowed Pork For The Pantry to support local 4-H & FFA members with over $8,400 toward their project expenses and donate nine market hogs to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in 2019. Delivery is scheduled for the end of August and estimated to be 1,000+ lbs of fresh pork.
“We saw an opportunity to help those less fortunate in our community while educating everyone about the agricultural programs that our 4-H and FFA members in Rockingham and Harrisonburg participate in every day. We are extremely grateful for the area businesses that support this great program and look forward to making the donation to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank at the end of the month.” – Adam Ford, Rockingham Cooperative
